Mirena IUD Lawsuits

By: wpadmin | Sep 26, 2014

You may qualify to file a Mirena lawsuit if you suffered from uterine perforation or other serious complications associated with the IUD. A growing number of women are filing claims alleging Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals failed to provide adequate warnings about the serious risks associated with the birth control device.

Complications associated with the Mirena IUD are extremely serious, and often require emergency surgical intervention to remove the device. Injuries caused by Mirena can endanger a woman’s fertility, as well as her life. An increasing number of woman who have experienced devastating side effects are choosing to pursue product liability lawsuits against Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals. These lawsuits allege that plaintiffs suffered severe physical injuries, as well as substantial pain and suffering after being implanted with the device. They further accuse Bayer of exaggerating the benefits of Mirena and downplaying its potential risks.

In 2009, the FDA also accused Bayer of overstating Mirena benefits and understating its potentially serious complications. In a warning letter sent to the company, the FDA took issue with live, in-home Mirena promotional events Bayer was coordinating with a popular social networking website. During these presentations, attendees were promised Mirena would improve couples’ relationships and sex lives. The letter pointed out that many Mirena users had complained about side effects including irregular bleeding, ovarian cysts, back pain, weight gain, breast pain and tenderness, and acne. None of these Mirena complications would help a woman look or feel ‘great,’ the FDA said.
